"Oh No!" by Hugo Monster
Bio from the Hugo Monster website [link]:
Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, HugoMonster grew up focused on the success of school, work, and love only to discover a life’s worth of obstacles boxing him in. Instead of becoming a maladjusted, cold-hearted creature, a persona began to form inside of Hugo, eventually taking a life on its own as rap tyrant HugoMonster.
With a light-hearted yet curt voice, the Monster’s words have found their place penetrating through tweeters and into music venues—revitalizing audiences. Born in impoverished Central America, HugoMonster moved to the United States in his early childhood, assimilating and immersing himself in the pop culture of American youth. Engrossed by the liveliness and sincerity of contemporary rapper Tupac Shakur, the innocent teenager predating HugoMonster began writing poetry and lyrics in the late 90’s.
Soon after teaming up with long time friend Tito Rockahorra, the two began writing, producing, and recording material. Hugo’s dissatisfaction with mainstream music at the time, as well as his admiration for battle rap expert Canibus, sprouted into a plethora of works which he would compile and distribute under the alias MC Huey in the early millennium. With his career and education beginning to consume his life, the six-foot tall monster of a rapper reluctantly put his talent on the backburner and prepared for his future.
A few years later Hugo went on to pique the interest of fellow friends and artists, BreakaDawn Juan and Charlie Giant, as they began to purse music ventures in addition to promoting themselves in the East Baycommunity. Around the same time, Hugo was dubbed HugoMonster after his dominant physique, brusque rap style, and a facial operation that permanently altered the artist’s face and voice.
Fixing a tight grasp on his newfound style, HugoMonster began recording his debut album Unleashed in 2006 with production by Tito Rockahorra and Charlie Giant. After graduating from college and winning the hearts of locals with his ‘Boogie Hugie’ style, Hugo spent his time studying the realistic issues of his favorite comic book heroes and expanding on his musical niche. He has since taken his first steps to success acting as the hype man for BreakaDawn Juan’s sets as well as performing guest verses.
Now, plowing the stage with energy and presence, HugoMonster looks to stun audiences with an incisive voice and dangerously spontaneous dance moves. Teamed with BreakaDawn Juan as the formidably funky duo, Check One, they look to bring in the new decade with a bang on their first collaborative effort.
